My Momma's Matzo-Ball Soup Recipe

“Boil one large whole chicken in vater –“ “How much water, Momma?” I had asked.

“Oy, as much as is necessary…you feel it shnukie, you’ll see.”

Cover the chicken with vater and inside the pot put a bay leaf, salt and pepper to taste for approximately two hours.

During that time dust every crevice in the house while humming along to Mozart on the radio.

Then slice thin rounds from two carrots, and one large stalk of celery.

Make 6 balls for 2 people using Manischevitz kneidelach according to recipe.

Let sit 20 minutes, then add to soup. Eat for Shabbos dinner.

Always make enough for Saturday leftovers or you’ll never hear the end of it.
